I made it, after six weeks of fitting in DIY’s and decorating, whenever and wherever I could-THE ONE ROOM CHALLENGE is over! I’m so glad I joined in on the challenge, it was just the push I needed to pull our family room and breakfast area together.
Here’s the before of our naked windows and big, huge sectional. And now for the after…… The curtains really added a finished look to the windows. Blue has always been a favorite color of mine to decorate with. With all the gorgeous indigo fabrics that have become so popular-I’ve been wanting to add some to our home for awhile. I found some fabric on Etsy and sewed 6 covers last weekend. I’ll source the fabric shops and where I found a few others. I’m so happy with how they turned out! Our mantle has always challenged me. It’s very large so to decorate it correctly I went with a large scale mirror and was able to add some items I already had to pull it together. I really like how the curtains frame that side of the room. And now for the most time consuming part of the whole process. The table, a Craigslist find, that was black and had seen better days. After a lot of elbow grease and time in wrestling it in the garage-I love how it turned out!
I talked more about the DIY process and how I had to go with plan B here. It was so worth it-I love how it’s opened up this space. And last but not least, we have a huge built-in entertainment center. I wanted to simplify the shelves and give them a simpler look. I have a collection of blue books and stuck to a simple theme of books, vases, and greener. Much better! I love seeing the before and afters-I didn’t realize how much work this area needed until I compared the photos.
Thank you for following along on this journey, and a huge thank you to Linda for hosting. Don’t forget to head to her blog Calling It Home to see all the other amazing transformations. I’ll do a follow up post with sources very soon.
