MY HOW-TO ON STYLING SHELVES
This is my how-to on styling bookshelves. There are endless ways to decorate bookshelves, but I broke down my process for you in today’s post. Sometimes it’s hard to find a starting place, I hope this post gives you a direction and steps to follow, so you can create styled shelves that you love.
You can find my all time most popular blog post HERE, and it’s all about these same shelves. This is the first time I’m re-styling them since that post.
The first step is gathering all of your decor pieces that you will, or think you will use, into one spot. I love shopping the house and pulling accessories from other rooms to give your shelves a new budget friendly look.
After pulling together the potential pieces, you can already get a feel for how the shelves will flow. It’s at this stage I start eliminating some items, and keep my favorites. Once I’ve gathered everything together I make a shopping list, if it looks like I need a few items to complete the look I’m wanting.
MY GO-TO STYLING PIECES FOR SHELVES
Neutral Elements-They set a great base for the shelves.
Texture-I love to pull in texture through wood accents and greenery.
Greenery-I typically mix faux and real greenery. Although this time around I went with all faux.
Vases-Are inexpensive and can add a lot of varied shapes to your shelves.
Books-I love to use books when styling shelves. They help add height where you need it and are an easy way to pull in color. My favorite sources for books are thrift stores and the free section of our local library. I just pull back the book jacket and check the spines, then choose the books that have the hardback color I’m looking for.
Here is where we get to to the fun part1
Figure 2-Now work on the middle shelf. Again, use similar items that flow but vary the shape and sizes of the objects. Also try to subtly tie in something you used on the previous shelves. I used books to accomplish that.
Figure 3-Time to add in some texture. I placed a few wood items on the remaining shelves to add some interest.
Time to add in the final details. I like to stand back and see what the shelves need to finish off the look. I this case it was just pulling in some more greenery.
