HOME OFFICE REVEAL
The big ONE ROOM CHALLENGE reveal is finally here!!! The last six weeks has been a real whirl wind. Thank you Linda and House Beautiful for hosting this challenge. This is my fourth ORC and the first time that my room is not 100% complete. I will have to do a 7th week when the back ordered items come in. Not to worry though, our home office has totally transformed, let me show you around.
It’s hard to believe this is the same room! I’ll share before pics at the end of the post, or you can find WEEK ONE here. I wanted to start with the pretty pictures before I remind you of how awful the before was.
This room dramatically changed when I painted. We went from milk chocolate brown to a beautiful gray. I choose Ozark Shadows by Benjamin Moore. I’m a DIYer at heart so everything done during this transformation was by yours truly, including the paint. I talked about the Home Right Paint Stick in some of my previous posts-it’s my go to for painting. Makes the painting process less messy and is a real time saver! And to celebrate finishing this project, I’m going to be giving one away on my Instagram soon-really soon. 🙂
Another big change was removing the existing built-in that we inherited when we purchased the house. We left one piece that has a filing cabinet on the bottom and storage on the top. The rest of the unit wasn’t really useful and felt awkward in the room. In it’s place we placed a storage unit we already owned. I gave our 15 year old furniture piece a makeover with some functional office storage pieces. I’ll link them below, they are all part of the Hearth and Hand line from Target. So is this cutie brass desk lamp.
The art is one of the items that is still on it’s way. I ordered THESE WATERCOLORS, but not in enough time for the reveal. So I purchased these similar instant downloadable prints from Etsy and had them printed at Staples. I plan on an upcoming blog post on how to print oversized art inexpensively-these only cost a few dollars to print and they’re 24 x 36!
I love how this little corner turned out! This chair is so comfortable, and the perfect spot to read or work off the laptop. I will be ordering a soft white velvet slipcover from BEMZ, look for that in my ORC week 7 post 🙂 I talked all about BEMZ and the slipcovers they offer in THIS POST.
IT’S IN THE DETAILS
The function of a space is critical, especially in an office, but I think what makes a room special are the details! One of my main goals was to create an office that flowed with the rest of our home and had some beauty mixed into the function.
I already owned this wood topped side table, it happens to be on sale this week-it’s technically a plant stand but works beautifully as an end table.
This room is flooded with natural light! The desk chairs arrive Friday-again, I’ll add them it to the ORC week 7 post. For now I’m using extra chairs from the dining room.
I LOVE this rug, it arrived less then 24 hours ago so some of the wrinkles haven’t worked themselves out but the pattern is beautiful and really warms up the space.
The new desks we got have a built in cord storage area, what a brilliant idea!
