I love fresh starts and new beginnings! I love the new year and setting goals. I’ve always loved thinking about all the potential the new year holds. Today I want to share my goals for what I want to create here on the blog this year.
But first, I want to share a technique I’ve been using that has really helped me identify my goals, and how to prioritize them.
THE PERFECT 10 TECHNIQUE
My husband shared this concept with me about a month ago, and I immediately put it into practice and I immediately noticed a difference in my daily productivity. The idea came from a business development book my husband is currently reading called, TRACTION by Gino Wickman.
In part of the book it talks about setting goals for your business and as you write them out for the year, picture what your perfect 10 looks like. Meaning, picture getting to the end of the year, and look back-what would your perfect 10 year would look like? What would you have accomplished, what bench marks would you have made, where would you have traveled, how much time would you have taken off, etc.
I tweaked that idea to use it in my daily routine, and I’ve been doing it consistently for the past month, and it’s helped me become more productive and more content. This is what works for me-preferably the night before or first thing in the morning, I look at all my commitments for the day. I write what I have to do in my planner. And then I think about what would make my day a 10, what are the things I need or want to do, so when I get to the end of the day I’d feel like my time and energy was well spent. Then in between all of my scheduled commitments, I plug those things into my planner as well.
Side note-I love my new planner, it has a column with time slots, a column for a to-do list, and a section for today’s top 3 tasks.
I really try to be realistic about my to-do list. A 10 day to me is having an attainable to-do list, one that’s manageable, and one that can be accomplished in the time I have available. There’s something about deciding first thing in the morning what your perfect 10 day looks like. It helps me in my decisions through out the day, and mentally keeps me on task through out the day. And when I get to the end of the day and have done what I’ve set out to do it feels amazing! Try it, I’m positive you’ll notice a difference too.
BLOG GOALS FOR 2018
First and foremost I want to continue to share ways to make your home feel more like you with budget friendly ways to create a home that you love. We’ve lived in our house over 7 years and are constantly making tweaks and changes to make it feel more like us. We’ve done it all on budget and haven’t done a major gut job to any room. It’s all been done with paint, some elbow grease, funiture, and decor. I feel like that’s where most people are at. It’s very rare to be able to come in and totally re-do a house all at once. So I hope as we share projects along the way, it gives you an idea for your own home.
DIY POSTS-I plan on doing more detailed posts on our DIY projects-big and small. These type of posts are time intensive but I know they can be so helpful to those tackling a similar project. Look for my post on building and installing barn doors, later this month.
A SERIES ON HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR DESIGN STYLE-I’ve wanted to do this for a while. As I talk to friends and clients, and when I look around at my own home, it’s key to know what style you’re drawn to and ways to incorporate it into your home. If you can determine this it saves time, money, and frustration. But where to start and how to determine your style is often hard, so I’d love to offer you a step by step guide. I’ve already started working on this and I’m just so excited at the thought of Meaningful Spaces becoming a resource on this topic for you.
GETTING MORE PERSONAL-I’d love for this space to become a source for you in more areas then just home decor and design. While home design will continue to be the focus, I’ll also be adding in things that I share with my friends in my daily life. Like, what are my favorite podcasts to listen to, the books I’ve read and loved, and a monthly fashion series on “what I’m wearing on repeat.” I love passing along to friends things I love and think they’d love as well, so look for some of those posts this year.
NOW IT’S YOUR TURN-I’d love for you to use the comment section below and let me know what you’d love to see here on Meaningful Spaces. I love to get messages about ideas for posts, that way I know what will be most helpful to my readers here. Once a month I’d love to tackle a post on something you’re struggling with in your own home. Thank you so much for sharing this space with me!
