Popping in with this weeks update for THE ONE ROOM CHALLENGE. Little by little this project is coming together. Progress as been a little slow because I was gone last weekend and am gone again through Monday. After this weekend I’m going to have to kick it into high gear!
FINALIZING THE DESIGN PLAN
You can go back and catch up on WEEK ONE and WEEK TWO, I shared my original plan week one. Here’s my new, slightly different, plan. In the new plan I switched up the rug, I plan on ordering this striped one. The reason for the change is that my dining room rug has a bold color and pattern, because of that I think the stripes will be a nice complement to it. The other rug, I absolutely loved, but I’m afraid the pattern would be competing with the other rug.
I also sourced a new entry table, it looks almost identical to the original West Elm I had on the original design plan. However, after measuring I realized the West Elm Table was too wide to fit at the base of the stairs. Luckily I found it’s less expensive twin, that is a few inches smaller and is a perfect fit.
DESIGN PLAN SOURCES
I was able to finish up the trim work around our barn doors. Find a DIY POST on how we built our barn doors for around $40 HERE. Back when we built the doors I hadn’t finished trimming out the opening, well it’s finally all done.
After the ORC is over I will do a blog post dedicated to the step by step on how to create these handles. It’s a simple quick project but I will do a post dedicated to them so you’ll be able to refer back to it. All you need to create them are 1″ wooden dowels, and bell ringers (the metal pieces}, which I found in the plumbing department of Lowes.
The bell ringers traditionally come in a brass color and I used spray paint and rub and buff to change the color. The silver color is a better fit with the barn door track. I also used some dark wax by Annie Sloan on the wooden dowels. The dowels came in a very light wood, and the darker stain blends better with the other wood tones in our home.
Before the week 4 update, I plan on finally removing “the shrine” once and for all. I also plan on building our entry way table. Then it’s on to tackling the stair way trim work. Lots to do, but determined to get the project done!
