FALL FRONT PORCH
I had so much fun adding some Fall porch decor a few weeks ago. As the seasons change, one of my favorite things to do is update our front porch. Over the years, I’ve learned, a budget friendly strategy to keep things looking fresh but that won’t break the bank. Here is my simple idea on how to do just that.
KEEP YOUR LARGE PLANTERS YEAR ROUND, AND JUST SWITCH OUT SMALLER ITEMS AT THE BASE
Let me explain…I always keep the same four planters on either side of the front door. I did a whole post HERE on front door planters. I’ve also learned to keep what is planted in them neutral, meaning I don’t plant them with mums for the fall or poinsettia for Christmas. That way I’m not spending extra money on seasonal items to fill up my large pots. I will add seasonal items around the base of the pots.
If you really have your heart set on something seasonal that you’d love to put in your large planter, I suggest keeping your original plant and then replanting it after the season item is no longer being used.
I plan on leaving the olive trees and rosemary, and will add a small plant or plants at the base of the planters. This Fall I kept it simple and bought two sage green pumpkins and two white pumpkins. The colorful mums I found for a $1.50 at Walmart. I kept them in the containers they came in and just tucked them in behind the pumpkins.
Layering your front door mats adds a layer of interest. Ooops you can see my toe sneaking in at the bottom of this photo 🙂
