HAPPY NEW YEAR my friends! I love a new year and a fresh start! This year one of my goals is to get my house ship- shape. The plan is to purge, organize, and do a deep clean in each room. I thought it’d be more fun to do it together, I hope you join me!
DEEP CLEANING SERIES-How it works
Each month we will tackle one space in our home, I’ll attach a check list so we can stay on task. When you finish the room (that means you’ve done everything on the checklist) send me a quick email and let me know you’ve finished. Those that finish will be added to a drawing for a price.
For those that complete each of the rooms during the series you will not only have an amazingly clean and organized home at the end of the challenge, but you will also be entered to win a grand prize!
THIS MONTH’S PRIZE AND HOW TO ENTER
Once you’ve completed all the tasks on the kitchen deep cleaning worksheet, send me an email letting me know you’ve finished. Make sure you’ve subscribed to my blog, only subscribers will be eligible to win. This month I’m giving away a $50 gift card to HomeGoods. If you don’t have HomeGoods near you it will be your local equivalent.
Kitchen must be completely deep cleaned on or before January 31, 2019. I must be notified you’ve completed the challenge by 9pm EST on January 31, 2019. Winner will be announced and notified by February 2nd, 2019.
Open to US and Canadian resident’s only.
LET’S GET STARTED IN THE KITCHEN
The kitchen is the most used room in the house so let’s start there. Below is the checklist and below that you will find resources and tips in each of the four categories on the checklist.
Before we get started I want to share some words of wisdom I recently heard. My husband has a patient that took an extensive classes in organization. He asked her what was one of the most important things she learned in the class. Here is what she said.
BEST PIECE OF PURGING ADVICE
“For items that are very rarely used and if they cost $20 or less and would take you 20 minutes to run out and purchasing again if needed, GET RID OF IT.”
I love to hold on to things that I may need “one day.” I’m changing my ways, it’s time to make space physically and mentally and only keep things we use on a regular basis and that we absolutely love.
CABINETS & DRAWERS
Don’t feel like you have to do every cabinet and every drawer all in one day, if you have the time and energy to do that by all means go for it. If you’re like me and don’t often have a whole day to devout to a project break up this task.
OVEN CLEANING-If you don’t have a self cleaning oven here’s a great resource on the STEPS TO CLEAN YOUR OVEN.
SANITIZING YOUR DISHWASHER- Fill a dishwasher-safe mug two-thirds full with white vinegar, and place on the top rack of your dishwasher. Run the dishwasher on the normal cycle. The vinegar loosens soap scum, food particles, and grease from the dishwasher’s walls and racks and washes down the drain. That’s all you need to do. Do this every few weeks to keep your dishwasher fresh and clean.
Be sure to check expiration date on all items. Don’t forget about the spices. I plan on keeping only those spices we actually use. My spice cabinet is busting at the seems with items I very rarely use and I can’t wait to do a thorough purge.
As you go through your kitchen use this section to jot down items you need to purchase. Example-if your cookie sheets have seen better days time to get new ones. If you need some organization items make a list here to remind yourself what you need to order. Below you’ll find some of my favorite organizing items.
