LET’S START AT THE VERY BEGINNING
First things first-I had a dining room rug I absolutely LOVED! Over the holidays I moved it to the family room, and feel it love with it all over again in that room. So my search for a new dining room rug begins.
The dining room is the first space you see when you walk in, and it has two story high ceilings, it really needs a rug to ground the space. It was love at first sight with THIS RUG that had been in there. However this time I just can’t decide which direction to go in. Let me explain…
You may remember from THIS POST earlier in the year, I talked about letting my rooms breathe, and when I did that in my dining and adjacent living room, I noted that I wanted to add in some more modern elements. I did that in our living room by re-styling our BOOKCASE. The only way to do that in our dining room is with the rug…
A week ago I made my first trip into a SERENA AND LILY store. I love the store’s fresh, modern, coastal feel. It got me thinking about the dining room rug, and how to incorporate their signature style into my home.
Serena and Lily is a very high end store. At this point and time their rugs are not in my budget. I was able to find a rug that reminded me of Serena and Lily but was at a great price. It has a modern feel and I like both the navy and light blue option…
My concern is that it’s a flat weave rug, and my family seems to think it looks like an outdoor rug. Now that they pointed that out I can’t stop thinking about that….reviews online were generally positive but I’m a little worried it may be too casual for the space. We are not a formal family but because the table and chairs have more of a formal look I don’t know if I want to mix these two styles. I’ve linked them below and you can see how the rug works with our existing furniture.
OPTION 2 AND 3
Option 2, is stick with my go-to blue and find a pretty rug that contains my favorite color in a traditional/modern style rug. It would not be a flat weave but a plush type rug. I’ve found several that I love and will link a few that I’m considering.
Option 3, is find a neutral rug. I adore accenting my home with blue but it does limit how I set the table seasonally.
Below I “tried out” a blue option and a neutral option. *Please forgive the following images, when you copy and paste it doesn’t produce the clearest images. But I’m so visual it’s nice to see how the furniture works with the rug choices.
Rugs USA allows you to upload an image of your space, choose a rug, and “try it out.” Again the image is blurry but you definitely get a feel for how it will ultimately look in your space. Below you’ll find my favorite (so far) neutral rug that I visually tried out in our dining room. I like how it’s a modern twist on a traditional style.
I don’t usually take so long to make a decision. Maybe I just haven’t found THE one yet. Or maybe it’s that they all will work and I just need to pull the trigger. I’m giving myself one more week and then ordering something! I’d love any input on what you think, or which one jumps out at you.
With this post I want to encourage you that we all go through agonizing over decisions we make for our home. We care about where we put our money, and we don’t want to make a choice that doesn’t compliment the other elements in our home.
It’s a process friends, and it was fun for me to bring you in on mine. I’ll do another post when the new rug (which ever one it ends up being) arrives!
