JOYFUL HOME SUMMER TOUR 2017
I am so happy to be a part of the Joyful Summer Home Tour this week. This is day two of the tour and I have the privilege of kicking it off. You’ll find all the lovely and inspiring participants at the bottom of this post. I hope you’ll catch up with yesterdays amazing tours at , My Vintage Porch, FarmHouse on Boone and White Lane Decor. A big thank you to Marci of Lemons to Lovelys for hosting and bringing us all together.
Hello and welcome to my old friends and my new friends! If you’re new here, I live in sunny Southern California, I’m a California native. I have an amazing husband, two kiddos, and a big goofy dog. You’ll find lots of DIY projects, check out our latest and biggest one to date here. I love making our home meaningful and special and am always looking for ways to do it without breaking the bank. My husband is a good sport and when I need assistance with the power tools or confirmation my latest idea will actually work he’s my go to guy! On the blog I love to share decorating ideas and tips and the latest things I find to make our home meaningful. Welcome to our house all ready for summer!
SUMMER FRONT PORCH
You’ll see the biggest change I made from Spring to Summer was just updating the flowers I have in the pots. My goal-I want to say this publicly for accountability, is to keep them alive all summer. I carefully choose hardy plants that can without stand my black thumb! Stay tuned!
The pillows below were a happy accident. I wanted to add a bright raspberry accent through out the house for summer. My all time favorite accent color is indigo blue, and mixing it with raspberry just says summer to me. I procrastinated and didn’t order pillows in time for the tour. Days away from photographing I started brainstorming a quick fix. In World Market in search of inspiration I saw some dish towels and knew these were the answer! I made the towels into pillows and can’t wait to share my no-sew, five minute method with you next week!

SUMMER DINING ROOM
Our dining room recently received a make over, find all the details here. One of the things that I added was a rug under the dining room table. I absolutely love the new rug! I searched high and low and wanted something that made a statement but didn’t scream at you. I also wanted to find something budget friendly, and I’m so happy with it! I keep this large basket on the table. If we’re entertaining I’ll add some fresh flowers to it, but for the in between times I love the texture and greenery the succulents, shown below, add.

SUMMER LIVING ROOM
The Dining Room opens up to our Living Room which also got a recent update. Summer makes me crave simple, more time for fun, more time for family, less to manage and think about! I recently read this book and if you’re wanting to slow down life and simplify I highly recommend it!
I talked about in last weeks blog post about my new favorite trick-use candle holders as flower vases. I especially love to add my favorite summer time flower, peonies. Anyone have a trick to making them last longer? I hate when they start to loose their gorgeous petals, after a few days!
SHOP THE LIVING ROOM
Keeping with the simple and clean feel in the kitchen. I love fresh flowers, but I try not to break the budget with constantly buying them. When I want that fresh feel for free I go foraging the neighborhood for greenery! I say go big or go home with the greenery! More is more when it comes to greenery in my book 🙂
I get so many questions on where to get that Stay Awhile sign. You can find the DIY to make you’re own here-it’s so easy, a five minute project!
I love finding unique home decor items that make my home feel meaningful and special for my family. Well, these glass wall pockets are my latest find! Perfect for fresh flowers, greenery from the yard, or herbs. Mine are sold out, but these are just as pretty.

SUMMER FAMILY ROOM
This is such a sunny room and the main hub of the house. I’m constantly rotating pillows on our huge sectional. Another reason that I’m so happy with my $4, 5 minute, DIY pillow covers.
In Southern California we have many cloudy summer mornings that we affectionately call “June gloom.” I make sure I always have throw blankets handy for those chilly mornings. I won (the first time I’ve ever won anything), this large weaved blanket from Twenty Five Knits.

I hope you enjoyed this years summer tour, I want to leave you with a few quick tips to remember when you’re prepping your own home for summer.
SUMMER DECORATING QUICK TIPS
1) Pick a color that says summer to you. Just one color that will blend with your existing decor. Summer lends to bright and happy colors, this summer raspberry pink just said summer to me. Then, add that color into your home in inexpensive ways-pillows, a throw, flowers, etc. Repeat the color in a few key rooms
2) Edit your home. Make way for more fun by having to manage less stuff. Take the time to go through each room and remove tired, and worn out decor or clutter. You will just feel lighter and the room will too.
3) Bring the outdoors in. In the summer the trees are green, the sun is shining, bring some greenery from the yard inside. It’s free and makes the house feel fresh and clean.
