I’m excited to share our families Valentine’s Day tradition with you. It’s sweet and simple and if you have a family you may want to give it a try this year.
We always have a special breakfast together, if Valentine’s Day is during the week we have it the weekend before or after. And per my kiddos request breakfast always has to include crepes. You can find the exact recipe here.
I shared with you our table that I set up for this years breakfast a few days ago. In case you missed it, find it here. If the weather allows we like to eat outside.
When the kids were just toddlers I started this next tradition. After we eat our delicious breakfast, we read three sweet books as a family. They are all relatively short, but you will need to prepare by having some Kleenex handy.
Above are the exact books we’ve been reading for years. My husband and I take turns, and each year we seem to cry sooner. In fact last year I cried just looking at the books! They all have the common theme of love-the love a parent has for their child, and they all highlight what a precious gift our children are. They also remind you how truly fast time passes and to savor the days we have with our children.
Guess How Much I Love You– is a classic and talks about a baby bunny trying to convince his momma bunny that he loves her more than she loves him. As a parent you know that’s impossible, it’s written in such a sweet way.
Love You Forever-Describes a mother and son and how their relationship evolves from new born until the son has his own baby. It’s emotional and impossible not to cry while reading it.
Someday-Similar to Love You Forever, this time however it’s written from the moms perspective and describes all the stages of raising her daughter. I sob.
Our kids love to hear us read them and tease us as we ugly cry our way through. Time is so precious and seems to go way too quickly. Here’s a picture I took two years ago, it feels like yesterday.
This is a perfect tradition if you have children, or a wonderful gift for that special family in your life that does. I’d love to hear about your Valentines Day tradition. Comment below if you’d like to share, or if you try ours this year let me know how long it took before you cried.
